Shooting Range Rules

Important: All shooters must present a valid, government-issued form of photo identification. All firearms brought into our facility MUST be unloaded and cased (on-duty law enforcement exempted.) All shooters must be either 21 and over, or have someone 21 and over accompanying them onto the range.

At The Gun Range San Diego, we strive to create the most fun, welcoming, and most importantly, safe environment for all of our guests. For your own safety and the safety of others, please review the following Range Rules before entering.

RANGE RULES

All shooters must have a valid, government issued form of photo ID.
All firearms brought into our facility MUST be unloaded and cased.
(On-Duty law enforcement exempt)

  • TREAT ALL FIREARMS AS IF THEY ARE LOADED AT ALL TIMES
  • ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you have identified your target and ready fire on that target.
  • ALWAYS keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.
  • ALWAYS know your target and what is beyond your target.
  • All un-holstered firearms entering the facility must be unloaded and cased.
  • Open carry of firearms is not permitted (on duty law enforcement exempt).
  • Firearms and ammunition are subject to inspection by range officers.
  • Individuals handling firearms in an unsafe manner will be removed from the range.
  • All handling of the firearms, to include casing and uncasing, will be done INSIDE the shooting booth only. At no time is a firearm to be handled outside of the shooting booth, unless the rental firearm is being transferred back to the rental desk.
  • NEVER go forward of the firing line.
  • Keep firearms pointed down range at all times.
  • No eating or tobacco use is permitted on the range. Drinking is not advised due to lead exposure.
  • Eye and ear protection must be worn on the range at all times.
  • Any shooters who are under 21 years of age must be accompanied by their parent, or legal guardian, no exceptions.
  • No incendiary or tracer ammunition allowed.
  • Rifles 308 caliber and smaller are allowed, nothing larger. Steel core ammunition of any kind is not permitted on the range. (If it sticks to a magnet it cannot be used on the range).
    • All Rifle caliber firearms will be fired at a minimum distance of 15 yards.
  • Shotguns ammunition will only be Slugs or Buckshot. Birdshot is not
    • Shotguns will be fired at Minimum distance of 10 yards
  • Rental firearms must be used with ammunition purchased from The Gun Range San Diego, no exceptions.
  • Keep all loaded or jammed firearm pointed down range, if you require assistance please leave the firearm in booth pointed down range, and notify a Range Safety Officer.
  • Do not transfer firearms between shooting booths, switch shooters instead. Do not transfer uncased firearms from lane to lane.
  • Fire only at the target which is in your assigned lane only.
  • CEASE FIRE: On this command, lay your firearm down unloaded, action open, step back from the line and await instructions from the range safety officer.
  • While entering or exiting the range area, open only one door at a time.
  • Do not throw any ammunition or empty shells in the trash containers.
  • All brass which falls forward of the firing line will be left.
  • Do not take any brass that you did not bring with you.
  • Use the appropriate size target, placed at eye level, to ensure that your shot strikes the backstop and not the floor, ceiling, or target carrier.
  • Drawing from the holster is allowed only after approval from the range personnel. Please ask permission prior to drawing. No Cross draw or drawing concealed holsters.
  • Firearms are to be placed on the bench, unloaded, and action open if leaving the booth for any reason.
  • Do not leave the Range with a holstered firearm. (On-duty law enforcement exempted)
  • If you leave the shooting booth area with a holstered firearm, the firearm must be unloaded.
  • No uncontrolled rapid fire.
  • No black powder firearms.
  • No fully automatic firearms.
  • The Gun Range San Diego reserves the right to deny the use of targets on the range that may be deemed offensive or unsafe, at our discretion.
  • Shooters are responsible for any damage they cause to the range and/or equipment, regardless of intent.
  • Shooting at anything other than your own target is prohibited and will subject you to removal from the range and a charge of $20.00 per strike to the range equipment.
  • Any person with a medical disorder which might create a safety hazard must notify range staff for assistance.
  • Any person under the influence, or suspected to being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • Any violation of the range rules may result in immediate removal from the range and forfeiture of Membership.
  • All ammunition sales are final. No returns.
